Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of The Holy Spirit. – Acts 2:38
About 4 years ago I had a discussion with someone as to whether we still had to be water baptized or not? Was this a pagan ritual or is this necessary to our salvation? We agreed that it was not necessary and therefore, we were not “required” to be water baptized.
One author says this about baptism:
As it was with Noah and the Flood, so it is with baptism. For baptism includes both immersion and emergence. What cannot pass through the water is not saved, but is drowned. However, what has passed through the waters and emerges from them is saved. – Watchman Nee (Secrets to Spiritual Power)
Well, two years ago I was convicted / convinced by The Holy Spirit that I should be baptized, after all JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE! If we are going to follow Him, we must follow Him completely or not at all.
The church I was attending was baptizing all the kids and since I myself am an overgrown child, decided I would like to be baptized as well. It just so happened that my step daughter (the best kid ever) was over and decided she wanted to be baptized also. Her father talked to her about what this means in that she is showing an outward proclamation of her belief in Jesus Christ. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior that night (August 23, 2008) and was born again and baptized the next day.
What a neat experience, we were baptized in the same water, one right after the other. A shared moment, memory and testimony for eternity.
Below is the video of our baptism…To God be all the glory, forever and ever, Amen.
The song accompanying this video is Michael Card: Celebrate The Child.
Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. – Romans 6:4
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. – 1 Peter 3:21
